The guided library visit begins at 11am, after coffee and biscuits, and will take in the original cells, special collections (including many works in foreign languages) and beautiful rooms. There will be a talk tracing the building's history from 1232 through conversions and demolitions, to 1998, when Kings College London acquired the Rolls Estate and modernised it to house its four libraries. At midday we will head to one of the nearby cafés/restaurants for lunch, before moving on to the magnificent Temple Church at 2pm, and wandering around its circular walls, full of history. In an interactive session, Sue will invite participants to raise any queries they may have. Dilemmas posed might include, for example, whether those of us who subcontract work are breaching the client's confidentiality by doing so; or whether it is acceptable to work on our laptops in a café. 'THEATRE TRANSLATION' TALK AND LUNCH Saturday 18 November Wig & Mitre, Lincoln, 12-4pm A fascinating talk about theatre translation by Dr John Whittaker. After completing a PhD on the translation of the Latin Vulgate into French Romantic poetry, John Whittaker taught for 34 years in schools and higher education before becoming a technical translator. As well as teaching French, he trained language teachers, and taught and examined the MA in Translation Studies in three universities. He gained an interest in literary translation through contributing four entries to The Encyclopedia of Literary Translation into English (2000). From 2000 to 2003 he was a member of the University of Hull's Drama Department, working on the project 'Translation and the British Stage', funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Board.
