All the people we have worked with are running significant academic study or assessment programmes and face similar challenges. It could be a wonderful thing – a United Nations of language programmes!" We have high hopes for the RVC Scheme, but what's most important is that it's another way for CIOL to rise to our mission, fulfil the expectations of our Royal Charter, and make our contribution towards spreading and sharing Universal Understanding. qualifications and advise on development, quality, reviews and other assessment activities. It is made up of a minimum of five members (currently there are 10) appointed for their expertise, skills and experience. We are always looking for high-quality expressions of interest for ETB roles. • CIOL Council. Council sets the strategic vision and direction of CIOL and monitors the implementation of our strategic objectives. It is made up of a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 CIOL members (currently there are 12), who seek election for a three-year term alongside the President. Council can also have up to four co-opted members, where needed, to bring additional skills. If you would like to talk to us about joining our governance we are always keen to hear from you. Please express an interest at www.ciol.org.uk/support-ciol-governance. To best serve the global language community as a forward-thinking professional, awarding and membership organisation, we depend on our members as qualified language professionals, experienced practitioners and educators to help us shape our strategic vision and direction, and also to assure our governance. Co-opted members can bring additional skills at any time, with full members usually elected or appointed for a three-year term (renewable once) and approved by Council each year. There are a number of committees and boards that support the work of CIOL and CIOLQ, which include: • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (ED&I). This committee makes sure CIOL's ED&I policy is active, maintained and implemented. We are always keen to attract new expertise and to broaden the representation of protected characteristics. • Finance and Executive Committee (F&E). We can co-opt people to this committee (especially CIOL members) who have significant financial, audit, risk management and strategic planning expertise to offer. • The Linguist Editorial Board. We welcome linguists of all backgrounds: students, educators, translators and interpreters, as well as practitioners from business, the professions and government, to advise on The Linguist's content. • CIOL Membership Committee. Composed of CIOL members from a range of professional backgrounds, this committee assures and oversees membership standards, applications and progression. • CIOLQ Educational Trust Board (ETB).
