CIOL Qualifications (CIOLQ) is an Awarding Organisation and the associated educational charity of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. We offer professional qualifications in interpreting and translation which are recognised both nationally and internationally by the professions, business and public services, and we test language skills for government and other bodies. We assess candidates in a wide range of languages against the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scales C1 (Upper-Intermediate) and C2 (Advanced). The timings and volume of our assessments vary, but we test large cohorts in European and world languages approximately six times a year. Our core qualifications are regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA. We have an extensive database of freelance assessors, who are linguists from a variety of backgrounds and devote time to assessment commissions, showing dedication to their professional and personal development. Assessing is both varied and incredibly rewarding. It can also be challenging, but assessors frequently talk about the skills and knowledge they gain while doing this type of work, which can open up new opportunities and further career progress. We are now launching a recruitment campaign to expand our database of subject matter experts from interpreting, translation and teaching backgrounds. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably experienced and qualified individuals who wish to work flexibly from home, collaborate with a preeminent UK-based professional membership body for language practitioners, and further their knowledge and experience of language assessment. We are looking for assessors in 32 languages: Albanian, Arabic (MSA), Bengali, Bulgarian, Cantonese (Traditional or Simplified Script), Czech, Dari, Farsi, French, German, Gujarati, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Kurdish (Sorani), Mandarin (Traditional or Simplified Script), Panjabi (Indian), Pashto, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese (European), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovene, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Thai, Tigrinya, Turkish and Urdu. Our assessors are involved at all stages of assessment. Pre-exam they write exam papers, edit papers or proofread exam materials; during the exam they conduct oral assessments or manage the whole remote assessment recording process; and post- exam they either mark, moderate or review candidate evidence. We are looking to recruit for all of the above roles. If you are an experienced assessor of higher level CEFR proficiency, it would be great to hear from you.
